Accurate measurement results are important as they provide a reliable basis for well-founded decisions and quality controls.

Calibrated test devices are required to achieve accurate measurement results. As the accuracy of the devices can change over time, regular calibrations are necessary to recognise deviations at an early stage. Adjustments can help to reduce deviations to a minimum.

Compliance

Calibration authorities that are ISO/IEC 17025-accredited are subject to strict national and international guidelines. The Austrian National Accreditation Body "Akkreditierung Austria", which comes under the control of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy, is responsible for the inspection, accreditation, and monitoring of test and calibration laboratories. The globally recognised ISO/IEC 17025 standard places requirements on the technical and professional abilities of the laboratory and its quality management system.

Traceability

Traceability means that measurements can be traced back to specified references. This ensures the comparability of the measurement results. Multiple calibrations are performed in order to check the accuracy of the measurements and to guarantee traceability.

Worldwide recognition

The accredited calibration has the advantage that the calibration certificate is recognised worldwide. This is thanks to the multilateral agreement on the mutual recognition of accreditation systems between the European umbrella organisation European Cooperation For Accreditation (EA) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

Mr Hüllhorst, the calibration laboratory in Sulz has been accredited by "Accreditation Austria". What type of calibration does this relate to?

Hüllhorst: The accreditation received by our calibration laboratory covers current and voltage calibration. The scope of the accreditation includes voltages ranging from 1 to 150 kV and currents ranging from 10 nA to 300 mA. In the AC range, we are able to calibrate measurands at frequencies ranging from 40 to 100 Hz, depending on the measurement range. We are also able to calibrate voltages and currents at the BAUR VLF frequency of 0.1 Hz.

What is the advantage of having devices calibrated in an accredited laboratory?

Hüllhorst: An accredited calibration laboratory provides our customers with numerous advantages. Firstly, it ensures the accuracy and reliability of the measurement results. Customers can rely on the fact that the measured values are precise and that they provide them with reliable information.

Secondly, an accredited laboratory meets legal requirements and regulatory standards. That is extremely important, especially in sectors with special requirements. Our customers can rest assured that our measurements comply with the applicable regulations.

The customer also benefits from the Mutual Recognition Arrangement of the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation), through which the accredited calibration certificates of our calibration laboratory are recognised worldwide.

Hüllhorst: Of course! In addition to accredited calibration, BAUR still offers standard calibration according to ISO 9001. All calibration services can be combined with maintenance and adjustment. We can repair BAUR devices quickly because, as the manufacturer, we have the product expertise and the original spare parts.
